What Save the Children say:
"The International Save the Children Alliance (Save the Children) is the
world's leading independent movement for children. It is made up of 29 organisations around the world who between them work in over 100 countries, sharing a common aim - to work for the betterment of children, their
families and the environment." In 1992, Save the Children was nominated as the official race charity of the British Steel Challenge 1992-1993. This relationship continued in the 1996-1997
BT Global Challenge, when over £560,000 (US$840,000) was raised and extensive publicity was achieved on a local, national and international level. The BT Global Challenge 2000-2001 set a fundraising target
of £300,000 (US$450,000) and finally achieved over £1,000,000.
